2/2/22 Groundhog Day – Enjoy Florida’s Winter
Six more weeks of winter is on the way. Punxsutawney Phil made his prediction around 7:25 a.m. ET Wednesday at Gobbler’s Knob.
From parties at the Magic Kingdom to stunning ice sculpture exhibits at Gaylord Palms, Orlando still has a festive feel. Just without the snow that turns to slush and having to run back inside every 10 minutes so you don’t get frostbite.
Play golf
If you’re looking for winter activities in Orlando, the weather is perfect for teeing off on the region’s many courses. One of the best golfing locations – Reunion Resort – is the only place in the world where you can play signature-designed courses by 3 of golf’s greatest legends: Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson. The Kissimmee-based resort is home to a host of luxury villas, as well as restaurants, bars and other amenities. It is conveniently located just 6 miles from Disney World and 20 minutes from Orlando International Airport.
Another top golfing spot is Champions Gate where you’ll find two 18-hole golf courses designed by Australian golfing legend Greg Norman. The resort has a golf school and a driving range on-site, along with a swanky clubhouse offering post-game refreshments and equipment rental. Champions Gate is home to a number of high-end vacation rentals, as well as a water park, swimming pools, restaurants, sports courts and a nearby shopping village.
Visit the theme parks
No matter what time of year you visit Orlando, you’ll find exciting events and thrilling rides at the theme parks. However, if you visit in winter, you’ll be greeted by some serious wow factor at both Disney World and Universal Resort.
At Disney World there are more winter events going on. Besides Disney’s awe-inspiring holiday decorations, there’s Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party which features colorful parades, live shows and amazing fireworks across Magic Kingdom park. At Epcot you’ll find food, music and traditional celebrations from across the globe. And at Hollywood Studios there’s the new Sunset Seasons Greetings attraction, boasting falling snow, twinkling lights and iconic Disney characters.
ICE! at Gaylord Palms
One of the most stunning displays in Orlando in winter is ICE! at Gaylord Palms, a magnificent ice sculpture experience. It’s truly an experience, because not only do you walk among the larger than life ice sculptures and ice sculpture landscapes, but you can also take your turn sliding down icy slides, sledding down indoor snow hills, and spending time meeting Santa and walking through Santa’s grotto.
